Later gravel pits and a probable thirteenth-century bell-casting pit stood behind tenements near St Mary’s Church; unusually rich bird, fish and animal bones suggest butchery and perhaps a prosperous household. Work at nearby 7–8 Broad Street also identified a possible sixteenth- or seventeenth-century inn, with a cellar, cesspit, drinking vessels and Venetian-style glass.
