About the book
Georgia Flouda publishes the archaeology of Apesokari in south-central Crete, concentrating on Tholos Tomb A and the associated habitation evidence in the Mesara. The study brings together older excavation records and material with renewed analysis to reconstruct both funerary practice and settlement at an important Minoan site.
The tomb is considered alongside a neighbouring domestic complex on Vigla Hill, so the people who buried their dead can also be studied through the places where they lived. Architectural reconstruction, pottery and landscape analysis are brought together with evidence from human remains, including a pilot ancient-DNA study. The relationship between the two sites opens questions about collective memory, community identity and Apesokari’s links across the Mesara plain.
