In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great: A Journey from Greece to India

In In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great, historian and broadcaster Michael Wood retraces Alexander’s extraordinary journey from Macedonia through the Persian Empire and into Central and South Asia. Following the routes associated with Alexander’s campaigns, Wood combines travel through the modern landscape with an account of the conquest that transformed the ancient eastern Mediterranean and Near East.

Along the way, he draws on ancient sources, archaeology and local traditions to examine both Alexander’s achievements and the human consequences of his campaigns. The result is an accessible blend of history and travel writing that connects the surviving landscapes of Greece and Asia with the ambitions, battles and encounters of Alexander’s expedition.
