About the book
Our Cups Are Full brings together thirty-eight studies of Aegean Bronze Age pottery and society in honour of the archaeologist Jeremy B. Rutter. Edited by Walter Gauß, Michael Lindblom, R. Angus K. Smith and James C. Wright, the collection examines what ceramic vessels can reveal about chronology, craft, exchange, feasting and daily life.
The subjects range from Minoan conical cups and Mycenaean stirrup jars to the pottery cargo of the Uluburun shipwreck. Other contributors test dating sequences at Lerna and Mitrou or examine how vessels were used in ritual and communal meals. The geographical reach extends beyond the Aegean to Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean, showing how even commonplace pottery can illuminate the movement of goods and ideas.
