About the book
At Bredon's Norton, near Tewkesbury, archaeologists uncovered a Roman bathhouse with a stone-flagged plunge pool and painted wall plaster. Later the building was altered: the pool was drained and grain was stored in the loft. A fire at the end of Roman occupation left charred crops and fragments of timber behind, preserving traces of that final use.
The discovery came during investigations along a seventeen-kilometre water pipeline that also crossed Iron Age enclosures at Pamington and a Roman rural settlement at Fiddington. Tim Allen, Kate Brady and Stuart Foreman bring these sites together with burial evidence from Bredon's Norton, showing the changing use of one stretch of countryside across the Iron Age and Roman periods.
