About the book
Four Mycenaean chamber tombs at Aigion were excavated in 1967, but the excavation diary and other records of their architecture and burial arrangements could not be found. What survives is the material recovered from them. Thanasis I. Papadopoulos and Evangelia Papadopoulou examine that evidence in a careful publication of the cemetery's finds.
These tombs yielded richer assemblages than eleven others excavated at Aigion in 1970. Among the pottery are rare forms, including cylindrical stirrup jars and an unusually decorated alabastron; terracotta figurines, by contrast, are absent. Comparing these objects with finds elsewhere in Achaea and the wider Aegean helps the authors assess the cemetery's long use and its connections to regions farther east, even where missing field records limit what can be known about the burials themselves.
