About the book
The Anglo-Saxon Agricultural Revolution in Norfolk publishes research presented for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project. Edited by Richard Hoggett and Neil Faulkner, it looks at the changing countryside of East Anglia during the 'long eighth century', when farming, settlement and exchange were becoming closely tied to a changing social order.
The studies move from a malting complex at Sedgeford to the spread of Ipswich Ware pottery and the evidence of animal bones for farming and trade. Other contributors consider the region's settlement landscape and how rural production may have been organised politically. These are questions answered from fragments of crops, pottery, buildings and documents, rather than from a single tidy story of agricultural progress.
